Jagriti Mishra, founder of Street Worldz Trust, has been caring for injured, abandoned and paralysed animals. For nearly two years, she had been working to build an animal shelter and gaushala in Nizampur village, near Kanjhawala in Delhi. The project was reportedly funded through donations, borrowed money and her personal savings, with around ₹70 lakh invested.
On October 23, the boundary walls of the under-construction shelter were demolished using a JCB machine. Mishra said that the action was carried out without prior notice and linked it to a bribe demand by local man Sonu Dabas. Media reports also named MCD junior engineer Vikas Gupta in connection with the demolition. The allegations of bribery and wrongdoing have not been independently established. Following the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met Mishra on October 25, ordered an inquiry into the junior engineer’s conduct and directed the police to register a case against those responsible. She also assured ₹5 lakh in financial assistance towards establishing the shelter. The circumstances behind the demolition and the responsibility of those involved remain to be investigated.
