A 24-year-old nursing student was injured after jumping from an e-rickshaw to escape assault by four men in Lucknow. Police arrested the accused, aided by CCTV footage.
On May 19, 2025, a 24-year-old nursing student in Lucknow suffered serious injuries after jumping from a moving e-rickshaw to escape sexual assault by the driver and three accomplices. The student, studying at a university on Kursi Road, was returning from her uncle’s house in the Burlington area. She boarded the e-rickshaw at Burlington Crossing around 7:30 PM, intending to reach Tedhi Pulia. However, the driver, Satyam Singh from Faizullaganj, picked up three men—Anuj Gupta alias Akash, Ranjit Chauhan, and Anil Sinha from Keshavnagar—en route.
As the e-rickshaw approached Nishatganj, one of the men took over driving while Satyam sat beside the student. Unaware at first due to being on her phone, she became alarmed when the vehicle sped toward Kursi Road instead of stopping at her destination. Despite her pleas, the men ignored her, making obscene advances and molesting her. Fearing for her safety as the e-rickshaw headed toward a deserted area, she jumped out, sustaining severe injuries to her head, hands, and knees.
CCTV footage captured the incident, showing her being dragged on the road after the jump. Passersby rushed her to a hospital, where she remains under treatment and counseling. Police arrested all four accused after tracing the vehicle through multiple CCTV cameras. The accused, with prior criminal records including theft, face serious charges. The investigation is ongoing as of May 29, 2025.
