Surekha Yadav Retires as Asia’s First Female Loco Pilot

Surekha Yadav’s retirement looms on September 30, concluding 36 years with Indian Railways. Hailing from Satara, Maharashtra, her journey began with a diploma in electrical engineering.

Breaking barriers, she became Asia’s first female loco pilot. Decades ago, this milestone reshaped the industry. In 2023, Yadav piloted the Vande Bharat Express. The route stretched from Solapur to Mumbai’s CSMT. Challenges tested her resolve.

The Colleagues celebrated at CSMT. She arrived on the Rajdhani Express, Train Number 22222. Staff, drivers, and family joined the farewell. Central Railway lauded her service.

Her career encouraged women in railways. Her efforts gained recognition over the years.
