A 25-year-old woman, Najma, was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances in her Lucknow home. She was married to Shamim eight months ago, was found hanging from a noose in their residence. Her husband lay unconscious in the same room; he was arrested once he regained consciousness. The police are treating the case as a possible dowry-related killing.
Najma’s father, last spoke to her around 11 p.m. Monday; she sounded normal, mentioning guests and tea preparations. The next morning , he was shocked by a call about her death and rushed to Lucknow. The father claimed Shamim demanded dowry and once beat her so severely it left marks on her private parts.
The police registered a case of dowry murder against Shamim. Postmortem reports will determine the exact cause of death, guiding further legal steps.
