In the shadow of Kerala’s local polls, Sayed Ali Majeed, CPI(M) leader’s was derogatorily referring to women candidates fielded by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML)—his main opposition in the Malappuram local body election—as mere “vote props”, accusing them of being paraded just to garner votes while cheering for women to “stay home and make kids.”
Yet, as India’s next general elections loom in 2029, the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam mandates that 1/3rd of the seats be reserved for women MPs. Irony much? This isn’t just outdated—it’s a wake-up call for real equality in politics. Will leaders evolve, or keep dragging us back?
