Agra, Uttar Pradesh: Sunil Kumar, the main accused in the murder of an 8-year-old girl, was shot dead in a police encounter while trying to escape. The incident began when the girl went missing from her home in the Tajganj area, after which her family informed the police and started searching for her. During this time, Sunil Kumar—who was a tenant in the same house and worked at the girl’s father’s shoe factory—even joined the search to avoid suspicion. The case took a shocking turn when police recovered the girl’s body from inside a flour container in his rented room, with her throat slit, exposing the brutal crime.
The investigation revealed that the motive was linked to a rent dispute. Sunil Kumar had not paid rent for months, and a few days before the incident, he had a heated argument with the girl’s family. During this, the girl’s uncle slapped him and locked his room, which triggered a revenge-driven act. He kidnapped the child, killed her, and hid the body inside the container to cover up the crime, while continuing to act normal before fleeing the area.
After the body was recovered, police launched a manhunt and announced a ₹25,000 reward. He was later tracked near Bamrauli Katara, where he opened fire on the police team while trying to escape, injuring a sub-inspector. In retaliatory action, police shot him during the encounter; he was taken to the hospital but died during treatment.
