A tragic case has emerged from Agra, where a woman named Kanchan (22) died just two months after a love marriage, sparking serious allegations of dowry mu*der.
Kanchan had married Shivam Verma on February 15 against her family’s wishes. According to her family, she was subjected to continuous harassment in her in-laws’ house, including demands for 10 lakh rupees in dowry and caste-based taunts. Her brother stated that due to financial constraints, he was unable to fulfill these demands.
The family alleges that Kanchan was mu*dered, and claims that crucial evidence like her diary and mobile phone, which reportedly contained details of her suffering—was removed to destroy proof.
After her death, tensions escalated as the family refused to perform last rites and staged a protest by blocking the highway, demanding justice. Police have registered a case of dowry death against the husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law, and the husband has been taken into custody. Officials stated that the woman’s death is being investigated, with reports suggesting she may have died by ha*ging, though the allegations of mu*der are still under probe.
