In a shocking case from Lucknow, Dr. Vijay Kumar Giri of Tejas Hospital, arrested for assaulting a 12th-standard student suffering from epilepsy. The girl was admitted on May 19, and on May 21, the doctor took her to the operation theatre on the pretext of giving oxygen. He sent her nurse sister outside, administered anaesthesia, and assaulted her. The victim narrated the incident to her family after regaining consciousness, leading to a police complaint.
The accused doctor holds a BAMS degree but was practising as an MBBS doctor and running the hospital irregularly. Investigations found several staff members lacked proper qualifications. Following action by Deputy Chief Minister, the hospital has been sealed and the doctor’s licence cancelled.
Police have registered a r*pe charges under SC/ ST Act, conducted a medical examination of the victim, and sent the doctor to judicial custody.
