A cab driver in Thane assaulted an elderly man on Tuesday evening near Jupiter Hospital after the victim objected to him spitting on the road.The driver, who hails from outside Maharashtra, pushed the elderly man, causing serious injuries including a fractured leg.Driver also picked up a stone to attack the victim. Local Shiv Sena workers traced and confronted the driver before handing him over to the Vartak Nagar Police Station.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the Thane police to register an attempt to murder case against the cab driver. Shinde instructed Thane Police book the accused under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, emphasizing that such brutal assaults for minor issues like spitting will not be tolerated in the state.
