Delhi: A newlywed woman, Akriti Sutar (28) was found critically injured after falling from the third floor of an NDMC residential complex in Delhi on Saturday evening. She was rushed to AIIMS Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Akriti worked as a sales executive with a private company and had recently resumed work after her marriage. She had married Arastu Sikka on April 24 this year, just 72 days before her death. According to her family, she had appeared mentally strong and normal in her last conversations and had even hosted a small office gathering on the day of the incident.
According to her family, Akriti had been facing continuous physical abuse and pressure over dowry from her husband and in-laws, who demanded 20 lakh rupees soon after the marriage. Rejecting the suicide theory, they have that she was murdered and said she had confided in them about the harassment she was facing. Following the incident, police registered a dowry death case and arrested her husband, Arastu Sikka. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including reviewing CCTV footage, while the post-mortem examination is awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
