A tragic incident has shaken Assam’s Hailakandi district following the brutal r*pe and murder of a 15-year-old girl inside her home. The teenager was discovered by her family in a extensive physical trauma and severe injuries to her face.
Earlier that evening, the girl had attended a family gathering nearby but returned home alone after an argument with a cousin. Assailants took advantage of her being alone in the house to carry out the assault.
The horrific crime sparked immediate fury among local residents, who staged protests and blocked NH 6—a vital road connecting Assam to Mizoram—causing traffic jams for several hours. Protesters demanded swift justice and strict punishment for those responsible.
Police arrived at the scene to clear the blockade and launch an investigation. Authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and arrested Prasenjit (Apu) Malakar (18) and Joydeep Ree (19) along with one juvenile who remains anonymous as forensic evidence and post-mortem findings confirm sexual assault.
