In Assam’s Majuli, a river Island, a 12-year-old girl was subjected to repeated sexual abuse over several months.
The assaults reportedly began when she was around 11 years old. The accused exploited her in absence of her family members and threatened to k*ll her if she spoke out. The crime came to light only after the girl was six months pregnant, prompting her family to file a police complaint.
Police arrested four adults — Khagen Doley (59), Dharmakanta Pegu (50), Yogen Doley (52), and Nathuram Doley (32) — along with two minors, who are being handled under the juvenile justice system. There is no information on any past association of these men with the family yet.
The girl is receiving medical treatment in a hospital. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act, and police are conducting a thorough investigation.
