A video from YouTuber Arun Panwar’s wedding has gone viral, showing his wife’s family presenting 21 tola of gold and ₹71 lakh in cash as wedding gifts. Arun, a popular content creator known for his car, lifestyle, and family vlogs, reportedly earns around ₹25–30 lakh per month.
Arun and his wife have defended the gifts by calling them a “surprise” and a “small amount.” However, with millions of followers, many feel he is normalising large cash and gold transactions in the name of gifts or “daan,” thereby sending the wrong message to his young audience about marriage and dowry.
Under Indian law, any property or valuable security given or agreed to be given in connection with marriage can attract the Dowry Prohibition Act, regardless of how it is labelled.
