She Was Locked in a Toilet for 10 Months After Child Birth

In a shocking case from Dehradun’s Selaqui area, a 32-year-old woman, married in 2024 to a Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher posted in Delhi, was confined in a toilet or room for nearly 10 months and brutally tortured by her in-laws after giving birth to twins in February 2025. The harassment reportedly began soon after marriage, escalating severely post-delivery when the in-laws visited once, demanded custody of the newborns, and later separated the mother from her babies, denying her the right to breastfeed. From July 2025 to May 2026, she was kept under horrific conditions, fed minimally with plain rice, onion, green chilli, and salt.

The woman’s father, a retired Army havildar, along with the village head, rescued her on May 26 after being unable to contact her. They found her in a severely beaten state with visible injuries from sticks, pipes, and other objects, patches of hair pulled out, and signs of assault on private parts using bottles and sticks. The husband, who occasionally visited from Delhi, participated in the torture, while the father-in-law reportedly made threats involving objectionable photographs. The mother-in-law was said to be the primary perpetrator of the abuse.

Following the rescue, the woman’s father filed a police complaint, leading to an FIR against the husband and his parents under BNS sections for voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult. Police have noted injury marks on the victim, with a detailed medical report awaited. The family has demanded justice and custody of the twins for the mother. Investigation is ongoing.
