Italy Introduces Chemical Castration for Sex Offenders

I bet Monijit Mishra will hate this more than a friendly jail with friendly cops!

Italy has proposed a law that will allow convicts of violent SA to undergo Chemical Castration.

Chemical castration, involving the use of anti-androgenic drugs to reduce testosterone levels, has been studied for its potential to lower recidivism rates among sexual offenders, particularly those with paraphilic disorders. Below is a summary of key findings from studies on its effectiveness in reducing sexual offense recidivism, based on available research:

Effectiveness in Reducing Recidivism:
Some studies suggest chemical castration can significantly reduce sexual recidivism. A meta-analysis by Lösel and Schmucker (2005) examined 69 studies with over 22,000 offenders and found that treated offenders had a sexual recidivism rate of 11.1% compared to 17.5% for untreated controls, with biological treatments (including chemical castration) showing larger effects than psychosocial interventions alone.

Opponents call this law inhuman and extremist.
