Mother’s Final Act of Courage Saves Children From Deadly Fire

A devastating fire in Prayagraj’s Naini Bazaar led to a heartbreaking tragedy when 38-year-old Archana Kesarwani sacrificed her life to save four children. The blaze, sparked by a short circuit in a ground-floor plastic warehouse, quickly engulfed the building in toxic smoke. Trapped on the roof, Archana courageously lowered her one-year-old baby to neighbors using a bedsheet and guided her two daughters and nephew across a makeshift ladder. While the children successfully escaped, Archana became trapped by the advancing flames and tragically succumbed to severe burn injuries during treatment.

An immediate government rescue was severely hindered by severe urban congestion and structural hazards. Fire tenders could not navigate the exceptionally narrow, encroached lanes of the old market, while the building’s sole staircase was completely blocked by commercial inventory. Emergency responders were ultimately forced to break through the walls of an adjoining house to reach the upper floors, highlighting a fatal combination of unplanned commercialization and blocked access that delayed the rescue.
