A 13-year-old girl in Kerala’s Alappuzha district planned an incident involving her grandfather so she and her friends could get money and gold. Police say she wanted an iPhone for herself and a motorbike for her boyfriend. The 65-year-old man, named Sivankutty, was found deceased in his rented house in Karuvatta with his hands and legs tied.
The girl asked three teenage boys, including her boyfriend, to carry out the plan. The boys came from Kollam by train, entered the house at night through a bathroom ventilator, and the man lost his life after a struggle. One of them made a video call to the girl so she could see what happened. They then took gold ornaments from the house.
Police took the girl and the three boys into custody. Officers say the group planned to sell the gold to buy the phone and bike. The gold has been recovered, and the case is being handled under laws for juveniles.
