Delhi police arrested 35-year-old tailor Saleem, a native of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly strangling a woman to death following a financial dispute. The victim, who had been demanding repayment of a loan, got into a heated argument with Saleem on August 21, 2025, leading to the fatal attack.
Authorities recovered the victim’s body from a drain in Delhi’s Dabri area on August 23 after a PCR call alerted the police. CCTV footage helped investigators track the victim’s last movements, showing her entering a building with Saleem and later Saleem leaving with a concealed body.
Saleem attempted to dispose of the body by transporting it on his motorcycle, but the body slipped, drawing public attention. Saleem fled the scene but was later arrested following a coordinated search by police that extended to his hometown of Hardoi.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), sent the body for post-mortem examination, and continue investigating to determine if others were involved in the crime. Saleem is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation.
