In a chilling betrayal in Kolkata’s Haridevpur area, a 20-year-old female college student faced a horrific ordeal that turned her birthday into a nightmare. The part-time store worker had been befriended months earlier by Chandan Mallick, who falsely posed as a Durga Puja committee head, and introduced her to Debangshu Biswas, a state government employee. Despite initial reluctance, Mallick picked her up on his bike and took her to Biswas’s rented flat in the upscale Regent Park area near Malancha cinema, promising a festive gathering.
The evening spiraled into horror when her drink was spiked with a sedative, leaving her dizzy and defenseless. The men locked the door, gang-raped her repeatedly, and held her captive overnight. Mallick, with a prior record for assaults, and Biswas exploited her trust built on Puja committee promises.
She escaped the next morning, confided in her family, and filed a complaint at Haridevpur police station, leading to charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for gang rape, abduction, stalking, hurt, and wrongful confinement. Police formed a Special Investigation Team, analyzed CCTV of their bike arrival, and conducted a medical exam. Her testimony awaits Alipore Court, while the accused, phones off, remain fugitives.
