Inter caste marriages have been a source of threat to couples for a long time. Not only is this a social ill, it denies adults their constitutional agency.
In a disturbing incident from Dehgam, Gujarat, Ayushi Rabari was allegedly abducted by her relatives after marrying Ravi Patel. The couple had been in a relationship for three years and decided to marry despite opposition from their families due to caste differences.
Reports suggest that shortly after the marriage, six of Ayushi’s relatives forcibly entered Ravi’s home, physically assaulted him and his family, and took Ayushi away. Neighbors witnessed the confrontation, and cctv footage of the incident have since circulated.
The Dehgam police promptly registered an FIR and launched a search for Ayushi. As of now, Ayushi’s whereabouts remain unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
