India Women Win First ICC World Cup, Beat South Africa by 52 Runs

On November 2, 2025, India’s women cricketers won their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and elected to bowl. India batted first and posted a strong 298/7 in 50 overs. Chasing 299, South Africa were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs.

Shafali Verma was named “Player of the Match” & Deepti Sharma was “Player of the Tournament” with 22 wickets and 215 runs — the first to score a fifty and take a five-for in a World Cup final. Harmanpreet Kaur took a stunning catch to dismiss Marizanne Kapp and seal victory Captain . She said: “This is for every girl who dared to dream.”

This is India women’s first World Cup title after losing finals in 2005 and 2017. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash prize of ₹51 crore for the entire Indian women’s team, including all 15 players, selectors, coaches, and support staff. PM Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu hailed the team’s triumph.
