A 25-year-old woman Rakhee Rana was shot dead by her brother Monty Rana in UP’s Saharanpur in a shocking case of honour killing. Rakhee who was in an inter-caste relationship left her homeafter which the family filed a missing person report. After Rakhee was found she was being taken in a police vehicle to a hospital for medical examination as a procedure.
As the police vehicle reached near a community health centre, Monty arrived on a motorcycle, walked up to the vehicle, and f*red at her at point-blank range, while she was sitting inside with police personnel. She was rushed to the hospital but died during treatment.
After the shooting, Monty fled the spot. In a video that surfaced later, he justified the killing, calling it a matter of “honour”. Police have launched a manhunt to arrest those involved as well as launching an investigation into the security lapse.
