A six-year-old Indian-origin girl, Nia Naveen, from a Kerala family, became the latest victim of a racist assault in an Irish city when a group of children attacked her outside her home. The incident, which occurred on August 4, 2025, saw the children punch her face, strike her private parts with a bicycle wheel, and twist her hair while shouting “Go back to India” and “Dirty Indian.” Her mother, Anupa Achuthan, a nurse who gained Irish citizenship after eight years in Ireland, told The Irish Mirror that Nia returned home crying and terrified after playing outside, too shaken to speak. The family, settled in Kilbarry since January, now lives in fear despite their integration.
The Gardaí, Ireland’s national police force, have launched an investigation following the mother’s complaint, though no arrests have been made. Achuthan, advocating for counseling over punishment, expressed her shock at her daughter’s fear of playing outside. The attack has raised alarms within the Indian community, with recent similar incidents reported, prompting increased Gardaí patrols. Community support has grown, with the mother’s interview photos circulating widely, fueling demands for action.
