In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, a youth and a girl faced a violent assault while returning from loan collection work.
The youth is employed at a Bank where the girl’s mother also works. The girl’s mother had sent the girl with the man belonging to another religion to make a loan recovery. While returning from the trip, a group of bike borne vigilantes accosted the victims, pulled them into a shop and attacked the pair. They forcibly removed the girl’s burqa, and recorded the incident, sparking widespread outrage. The local police acted swiftly, arresting six suspects and registering a case under relevant legal sections.
India sees acts of moral policing quite often. The annual attacks on Valentine’s Day by Hindu groups to the recently growing attacks on Burqa-clad women found in the company of men by Muslim vigilante groups form a perfect race to the bottom.
Let people be. And get a job.
