Digital rape is a type of sexual assault where a person forcibly and without consent inserts their fingers or toes into another person’s private parts.
In a shocking incident at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, a 25-year-old technician, Deepak Kumar, was arrested for sexually assaulting a 46-year-old air hostess who was on a ventilator in the ICU. The assault, reported on April 14, prompted a swift and thorough investigation by the Gurugram Police, leading to Kumar’s arrest.
The victim, a West Bengal native in Gurugram for airline training, lodged a complaint at Sadar police station, alleging digital rape on April 6 while she was semi-conscious in the ICU. She recounted hearing Kumar ask nurses about her waistband before assaulting her under the bedsheet with his fingers, with two nurses present but failing to intervene.
Kumar, a bachelor’s degree holder in Operation Theatre Technology, confessed to the assault during preliminary questioning. He will be produced before a magistrate on Saturday for further remand and questioning. A case has been registered under the BNS, with ongoing investigations awaiting forensic reports.
