32-year-old Vipanchika Maniyan living in Sharjah originally from Kerala, died by suicide on July 8. Family alleges she endured brutal dowry torture by in-laws, she was shaved bald and humiliated over her looks as demands escalated.
A handwritten note and a now-deleted Facebook post named her husband Nidheesh, his sister Neethu, and their father Mohanan as the ones who drove her to this tragic end. Her one-year-old daughter was found dead alongside her.
The UAE consulate intervened to halt the child’s funeral after the mother’s family demanded both bodies be repatriated to Kerala. Back home, the Kundara police have filed charges including dowry harassment and abetment to suicide against her husband, sister-in-law, and father-in-law.
